Why Disney Needs to Bring Back Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man

Why Disney Needs to Bring Back Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man

The Tobey Spidey still has a huge fandom and regular movie-goers who loved his performance.

The 2004 Spider-Man 2 is one of the most beloved superhero movies of all-time. Bringing Tobey back allows you to bring back the cast that everyone likes. People loved J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson and Alfred Molina as Doc Ock was epic.

Tobey has the potential for instantaneous global star-power and the ability to be recognized immediately as "born to be a superhero," just like Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Disney needs someone who IS Peter Parker, not just someone who can play Spider-Man.

Tobey Maguire, in the minds of movie-watchers, would already be on an equal level with the other superheroes in the Avengers, so you wouldn't need to explain anything, or, God forbid, have ANOTHER ORIGIN STORY.

Plus, with Marvel's Civil War movie coming and featuring Spider-Man revealing his secret identity to the world. We need major emotional impact from the scene where Spidey unmasks in front of everyone. You wouldn't get this emotional impact from a brand-new actor, but Tobey would absolutely provide this. In fact, this scene was just made for Tobey Maguire and J.K. Simmons! Look at it!

If Disney does make this very smart decision, they need to continue from the end of Spider-Man 2 and pretend that Spider-Man 3 didn't happen, or just make vague references to the past like Marvel did in the Ed Norton Incredible Hulk movie. That way Disney can reintroduce an amazing Venom without worrying about the version we saw in Spider-Man 3.
